The Bartholomew Selvon Foundation (BSF) is a community-based organization founded by the descendants of Bartholomew Selvon, a teacher, organizer, and activist who believed that significant changes could occur when executed at the grassroots level. He founded and advocated for an initial program called “The La-Seiva Home-work Centre,” funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Homework Centre provided a safe space where children from underserved communities received assistance with their schoolwork, enabling them to succeed in the formal educational system. The Bartholomew Selvon Foundation (BSF) was established to continue and sustain essential spaces, such as Homework Centres, in communities. By extension, we will also offer social welfare programs and micro-enterprise support initiatives wherever we see a need and, in effect, maintain Mr. Bartholomew’s legacy of community activism.
The foundation will create safe spaces for students and youth to thrive in their communities. The foundation will introduce its programs to more communities and widen the organization’s influence in the nonprofit industry.
We partner with a variety of organizations and businesses in our community to help us achieve our mission.
